Crime is a phenomenon that creates a significant obstacle to the peaceful movement of our society and the holistic development of our Zone. The Diverse Criminal Cases Work Process of the Wolaita Zone Justice Department is entrusted with the great responsibility of safeguarding the peace and security of our people by legally tracking and investigating various criminal acts committed within the community and bringing perpetrators to justice.
This work process handles a wide range of complex crime categories, primarily focusing on:
- Crimes Against Life and Person: We give special attention to tracking cases of homicide, grave and common willful injury, and acts that violate human rights.
- Crimes Against Property: We ensure the protection of citizens’ property and labor by preventing theft, mugging, robbery, and fraudulent commercial transactions.
- Crimes Affecting Public Peace and Order: We legally regulate the illegal trafficking of firearms, disturbances of the peace, and actions that create fear within the community.
- Forest and Natural Resource Crimes: We provide legal support to protect our environment’s natural grace and forest resources from illegal destroyers, ensuring they are preserved for the next generation.
The Digital Frontier
The new “wolaitajustice.gov.et” website marks a new chapter for the investigation and prosecution of diverse criminal cases. Through this platform:
- Convenient conditions are created for the public to report crimes committed in their localities to justice bodies quickly and confidentially.
- It helps reach the public with information that creates awareness about crime prevention methods and emerging crime types (such as cybercrime).
- It accelerates efforts to reduce delays in justice by modernizing criminal record management.
A Call to Action
Crime prevention is not the responsibility of security and justice bodies alone; it is the duty of the entire public. Remaining silent when a crime is committed is tantamount to supporting the criminal. Therefore, every citizen must play their part in the prevalence of law and justice. I especially call upon youth organizations, community elders, and peace committees within our Zone to work closely with us.
For our part, we will strengthen our efforts to ensure the rule of law prevails by managing any criminal prosecution with impartiality, integrity, and professional ethics.
